The Irene Lopez School community was selected by the Phoenix Fire Department for a smoke detector neighborhood walk on Saturday, October 6. This event, led by the Phoenix Fire Department, The Red Cross and the AZ Burn Foundation, will involve roughly 150 volunteers walking the Irene Lopez School neighborhood to help residents check smoke detectors and install detectors wherever needed. Leading up to the event, they will be at Lopez on Friday, October 5, to lead assemblies with all students regarding fire/smoke safety. This program also provides every teacher with a story book, a teaching guide and a classroom poster; and, it provides every student an Activity Book/Parent Guide and sticker. This program meets Arizona College & Career Ready Standard for K-2. PreK-2nd grade teachers will read the related stories to students during October.
