Eighth Grader Carmen Montoya Wins Annual RSD No. 66 Spelling Bee

Roosevelt School District No. 66 (RSD No. 66) held its annual Spelling Bee today. The district-wide event was held at the district’s administrative offices.  Two students from each campus competed, yielding the new 2018 Spelling Champion: Chavez School eighth grader Carmen Montoya.

Second and third place went to Davis School seventh grader Charles Imeah and Bernard Black School eighth grader Ariza Ortega, respectively.
The winning word spelled by Montoya was “karate.”

Today’s competition went on for more than 10-rounds, allowing all three students to advance to the Arizona Region Three Spelling Bee on Feb. 23 at the Boys and Girls Club, hosted by the Isaac School District.

The annual RSD No. 66 Spelling Bee is coordinated by Literacy Specialist Felicia Sparks with the assistance of district coaches and the academics department.

Congratulations to all of the spelling bee participants and each winner!
