What I Need (WIN) Time
-
All students participate in WIN time for the first hour of the day (7:30 AM - 8:30 AM). During this reading intervention time, students are regrouped according to their current reading level and specific learning needs. For students reading above grade level, they have the opportunity to engage in Literature Circles, which allow for in-depth discussions and critical thinking focused on a shared text. Students reading near or at grade level will be supported in mastering grade level "essential standards" for reading. Students reading below grade level will get focused support in the foundational reading skills that are necessary for a student to comprehend texts at their grade level.
Teachers work collaboratively, using multiple data sources, to group students for intervention and plan high quailty intervention instruction. Teachers utilize best practice and approved programs/resources, including:
- Success For All
- Guided Reading
- Words Their Way
- Reading AtoZ
- NewsELA
- Keys to Literacy
- Running Records
- Phonics Screeners
Both students and teachers set regular growth goals for WIN time in order to ensure that everyone is invested in growing as learners!
