I am excited and prepared to continue the work with the wonderful students, teachers, and support staff who make up Bernard Black family.

I received my bachelors degree in Elementary Education from New Mexico State University. A few years later I earned my masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Arizona State University, and a second masters degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix.

I have served in education for the last 18 years, teaching a variety of grade levels, with 4.5 years as an instructional coach, and 2 years in Administration.

Additionally, when I am not serving my community, I am spending time with my two daughters. I enjoy traveling around Arizona and spending time with my family. It is my belief that teaching children is a privilege and a teacher should only take on a teaching role if he or she has a passion to make a difference, believe in the power of education, and commitment to continue his or her own education.

All children can and will learn in a safe, loving, and caring environment where he or she feels valued and his or her talents and abilities are embraced. Also, I believe that schools are the heart of every community and should be a place for communication, support, and safety. Additionally, high expectations, student achievement, and accountability should be a priority of every school community and be a combined effort of all stakeholders. I look forward to continuing my work at Bernard Black.

I have been in education for 18 years. I started my career in the Creighton Elementary School District. I was a middle school English Language Arts teacher, a Student Achievement Teacher, and an Assistant Principal in the district. I loved our families and the community that I had the pleasure of serving.

In my time I have enjoyed the relationships that I was able to build with the students, staff, families and community, and I am looking forward to building new relationships. My belief is that each of us has a very important role in a child’s education, and if each of us work together, our students will have unlimited possibilities. We have to be strategic and look at each child’s strengths and work collaboratively to ensure we have the best systems and supports in place so that each student can meet his/her potential. I think as a team, we can do this, and there won’t be anything our students can’t do.

I have an open door policy for students, staff, and family. Please know that I am here and I am excited to be joining such a great community. If you ever need me, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to getting to know each of you!

Mr. Larry LaPrise

I am very excited to enter another year as Principal of Valley View Leadership Academy.

I have worked in public education for more than 30 years. I started my career in the Apache Junction School District by teaching 4th grade and 6th grade. After six years in the classroom, I then became the Career Ladder and Staff Development Coordinator along with acting as the District Hearing Officer. During this period of time, I was named the Principal of Peralta Trail Elementary School, in which I had the opportunity to design and watch over the construction; Truly an amazing experience.

After nine years at Peralta, I was asked by the district to combine two middle schools into one junior high due to a school closure. While combing two staffs and two student bodies, we also incorporated the 1:1 computer philosophy. Two years later, the district asked me to become the high school principal which I enjoyed for the past six years. Like my junior high experience, we incorporated the 1:1 philosophy in the high school setting. The best part of the story is every time I was asked to move levels/schools it coincided with my daughter’s schooling. She had the “pleasure” of having me as her principal kindergarten through high school graduation. As you can imagine, I enjoyed the experience more than her; unless she needed money.

I look forward to serving Valley View students, staff, and parents. From the staff I have now know for a couple of years, I can see the dedication for our students. I look forward to continuing the many traditions of Valley View as we move forward. If there is anything I can do for you, please do not hesitate to ask.
