Roosevelt School District launched an esports league in April 2021. Our sixth, seventh and eighth grade students competed weekly in Rocket League exhibition matches leading up to our "Esports May Madness Tournament" on Saturday, May 1. The all-day tournament featured teams from 14 of our schools competing for the inaugural RSD Esports Championship.
Esports, or “electronic sports,” is organized, competitive video game play with its own rules and guidelines. It is a growing industry with an increasing number of career opportunities and college scholarships. Rocket League is a free game that mixes soccer with a demolition derby. The game can be played across consoles by players on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PCs.
The district plans to bring back esports for the 21-22 school year.
