Greetings RSD Online Academy Families,
On Monday, Aug. 2, 2021 the Roosevelt School District will open it’s virtual classroom doors and welcome the new students of the RSD Online Academy. The staff and teachers would like to send a big welcome to all of our newly enrolled families! Our teachers, as well as the staff of RSD have been working tirelessly to ensure that the first day of school is a seamless experience for all.
On Thursday, July 29, we hosted our first Meet the Teacher night on the campus of Bernard Black. Thank you to each and every one of you that made the time to show up, learn more about our program, and engage with our team!
Due to the large number of enrollments that are being processed each day, we are all doing our best to respond to all calls, emails, and text messages that we are receiving. Thank you for your patience as we navigate this new and exciting learning opportunity within the Roosevelt School District.
Once the enrollment process is complete, please expect a call, or an email from your students’ assigned classroom teacher. This welcome email will contain important information about the first day of school, contact information, and many other important details. This will only take place after your student is fully enrolled, and all required enrollment documents have been received by the District Office. Please allow up to 72 hours for processing of your application and materials.
Again, we are delighted that you have decided to learn with us this year! Please see below for commonly asked questions regarding the Online Academy.

First Day of School
Monday Aug. 2nd, 2021 is the first day of school. By 8:45am, students should be logged in and ready to learn in the Zoom classroom of their grade level teacher. If you have not been contacted by your child’s new teacher, please do not worry. Kindly send an email to Ms. Burrow and we will assist you.
Week One of School
Due to the large number of students that are enrolling each day, the first week of school will be a designated non-academic week. This means that we are allowing families additional time to finish the enrollment process, submit required paperwork, and secure their Ipad Technology before we begin accessing Curriculum & Assignments as a school community. All teachers will utilize this week to reinforce classroom expectations, procedures, and protocols for a successful online learning experience. All students will receive their class schedule on their first day of classes.
Fully enrolled students are now able to pick up their assigned iPads from the campus of Bernard Black. If you are fully enrolled, and have yet to receive your child’s iPad, please schedule a pickup time. Please wait at least 72 hours after submitting all required enrollment documents, before attempting to schedule iPad pickup. Please note, due to the number of iPad requests that we are receiving, we are not able to accommodate walk-in requests at this time. Appointments must be scheduled in advance.
Cafeteria Meal Programs
All students within the Roosevelt School District qualify for Free & Reduced Breakfasts/Lunches. In order to schedule meal pickup, please call the school location closest to your home, and speak with the Cafeteria Staff to determine pickup dates and times.
Updated Contact Information
As an Online Academy, it is imperative that we have the most up to date contact information for each of our students. Please make sure that we have a valid email address and phone number on file for your family.
Student Enrollment Status
For questions about your child’s enrollment status in the Online Academy, please contact the District Office at 602-243-4832. Please do not contact grade level teachers for this information.
Please be advised that Roosevelt School District will continue to require face coverings indoors at all of our District sites. A court ruling yesterday determined that the Arizona ban on school face covering requirements is unconstitutional and will not go into effect on Sept. 29 as previously announced. Although there will likely be an appeal to this ruling, RSD will keep all safety measures in place, including masking indoors.
Beginning with the start of the 21-22 school year, four of RSD's schools launched their new signature academy, focusing on practical learning and tailoring to student interests. The Academy of Global Studies at T.G. Barr is piloting the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme. The Academy of Innovation and Design at C.O. Greenfield is focusing on the use of 3D technology to bring learning to life. The Academy of Inquiry at J.F. Kennedy is pairing classes together to drive student collaboration across grade levels. The Academy of Science and Nutrition at V.H. Lassen is using gardening and cooking to bring school outside the four walls of the classroom. Roosevelt also launched the Online Academy, open to students across Arizona who want the option to continue their primary education virtually.
We are a place where we value equity, inclusion, kindness and innovation. We are a place where students are taught by highly qualified, certified, caring teachers and staff, in safe and nurturing environments. We are a place where all students and families are valued and respected. We are committed to providing all students with a high quality learning experience.
Family Engagement Workshop Opportunities
Our district provides resources workshops and events to help our families thrive. During this pandemic, it's even more important for us to come together and help each other. We will continue to update the Family & Community Engagement Workshop page frequently with new, virtual workshops and events. As you will notice, some of the virtual events are district-wide for all parents and families to attend and some are school based.
