The Pastor Band

  • The Pastor Band is currently under the direction of Mr. Aldie Lopez. The band program consists of over 180 students from grades 5th-8th grade. In 5th grade students get a chance to begin experiencing the instrumental world of band. Through 5th and 6th grade students will learn the basic fundamentals of instrumental music education in preparation for their Jr. High Band years. In Jr. High students will enter our Symphonic Band, which is our principal performing group here at Pastor Elementary School.

Throughout the year our bands perform at various events throughout the district. In the past we have performed at: the RSD Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, the South Mountain Village Thanksgiving Parade, The Laveen Community Parade and the RSD Cesar Chavez Parade, the RSD Band Showcase, the RSD Band Festival, Las Vegas, NV, Buena Park, CA and even was selected to perform the National Anthem at the a Phoenix Suns Home Game.

When Mr. Lopez took over the band program in 2010 the band had a total of 28 students in the whole program from 5th - 8th grade. Today after much recruiting, success, and fun we now have over 180 students in our band program.

The most interesting part about our program at Pastor is the pride and love the band students have developed for themselves and their band. They pride themselves on being a part of the Pastor Band and carry themselves that way. The family atmosphere that they have created and the way each morning the music room is filled with 20+ students wanting to hang out in the "band room" is the reason I love teaching band.
